The professional nursing and medical staff recognize the right of patients to have comfort and encouragement from the visitation of family, friends, and/or other persons whom the patient chooses and will support that right. We have open visitation with the exception of our behavioral health unit.
- Please stop at the security desk in the main lobby to receive a visitor’s pass.
- Children are permitted as visitors; however, all children must be accompanied by an adult.
An ATM machine is available in the hospital for your use. The ATM machine is located on the first floor of the hospital near the cashier window. West Palm Hospital does not own the ATM machine and any problems with the ATM machine must be directed to the bank sponsoring the machine. This information may be obtained on the front of the machine.
Patients are asked not to bring items of value to the hospital. If you do bring a valuable item, it should be deposited in the safe in the admitting area. You will be given a written receipt for all items, which then must be presented when you withdraw them.
The hospital does not accept responsibility for items of value unless they are deposited in the safe. If you lose something, please notify your nurse immediately and every effort will be made to find it.
Security Officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to keep our parking lots safe for visitors and employees.
Pastoral Care/Spiritual Needs
Please contact your nurse for information on pastoral care. West Palm Hospital also provides a quiet chapel for our patients’ and visitors’ needs located on the first floor near the Critical Care Unit.
Needs for the Hearing Impaired/Interpreters
Hearing impaired patients or patients with translation needs should contact their nurse who will make appropriate arrangements with the supervisor. Patients and visitors requesting the use of TDD's (Telecommunications Device for the Deaf) should be directed to the PBX operator in the front lobby or after hours to the Emergency Department.
Nutritional Services and Your Meals
Wholesome, nourishing and well-balanced meals are an important part of your treatment and recovery. West Palm Hospital makes every effort to provide nutritious meals that are prepared to your doctor’s orders.
Occasionally your meal may be delayed if you are scheduled for a special test or treatment. Whenever possible, you will be served after your test or examination.
Your breakfast tray will include a daily menu listing including alternate selections. If you are interested in an alternate selection, please call extension 3915. If you have difficulty making menu selections, a member of the Nutritional Services Department will be happy to help you. Simply call extension 3915. If you are on a special diet prescribed by your doctor, you will receive menus tailored to your specific needs.
West Palm Hospital maintains a staff of full-time Registered Dieticians to meet your dietary needs during your stay. If you have questions about your meals or your diet, please call us at extension 3915.
Vending machines are located in the cafeteria and just outside the cafeteria.
Visitors are welcome to eat in our cafeteria:
Breakfast 7:00 am – 9:30 am
Lunch 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
If a family member or friend wants to eat in your room with you, that person may go to the cafeteria, purchase their meal and bring it back to your room.
Your hospital bed is electrically operated and your nurse will show you how to properly adjust your bed. Your hospital bed is probably higher and narrower than your bed at home. Bedside rails are for your protection. They may be raised at your request at night or during the day if you’re resting, recovering surgery or taking certain medications.
All rooms in the hospital are centrally heated and air-conditioned. If your room temperature is not comfortable for you, please notify the nursing staff.
Calling Your Nurse
A button to call your nurse is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the Nursing Station is alerted and a staff member will respond to your signal as soon as possible.
During the Night
Please stay in bed after you have been prepared for the night. Strange surroundings and sleeping medications may create a hazard if you get out of bed. For assistance during the night, please use your nurse call button.
Color TV’s are provided in each room. When using your TV, please be considerate of other patients by keeping the volume low.
